Invisible Cities
This project was a series of experimental steps with dynamic form and content. The goal was to create an inventive folding piece using the golden ration and expressing a text from Italo Calvino’s book Invisible Cities. The short passage revealed hidden structures, relationships and signs that triggered memory, activities, and desires in a city. I was assigned the city of Moriana, a place with two opposite faces. Shown here is the final piece and the paper studies leading up to it. I was interested in creating spirals because Calvino’s description of the city of
Moriana reminded me of a Helix — two spirals moving around each other.
