Spring, sort of

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

A new semester started this week. I bought a couple new books for my Art, Life, Theater class and attended a class on making visual systems today. We’re starting out the first assignment by experimenting with patterns and modules. Here is something I’ve been playing around with- made by repeating one module over and over.

Working on a New Layout

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Last time in class I worked on getting this journal to look less like the default Wordpress Journal. Dealing with a pre-made code, especially one that has much php worked into it was daunting. I’m hoping this page doesn’t break in someone’s browser. Originally I was going to make the headers on all the pages of my website look the same- large Rockwell typeface title, a navigational bar, and the color scheme of greys and green. the journal in that color felt cold and distant, so I tried making a related header with ducks and using purples instead of green. That felt really boxed in, so I’m trying this current layout. It’s meant to look like papers sitting on my desk. The green color came back, and the big type is still there, but the header resembles the other pages only by a little bit. I guess since this is a journal, it’s ok to fall away from the grid.

The picture below shows the layout that was up until today.

Birds up high

It’s always nice to see some cute fellow perched high up on the light post. This made me smile.

Under Construction

Currently I’m working on getting this website up and running and making this journal page feel more like Karin’s room- lots of green, cozy and an organized mess of sorts. I’m taking portfolio pictures and having recently learned about different ways to utilize the light-kit, I borrowed one from the school and turned my small dorm room into a makeshift studio. The lights made my room brighter than I ever could have thought, especially since not much direct sunlight comes in through the windows.
